Sculptures of Lucifer

None of these works are made by myself and I disclaim all rights to them.

Costantino Corti

Lucifer (1886)

Joseph Geefs

L'ange du mal (1842)

Guillaume Geefs

Le génie du mal (1848)

There is a hilarious story behind these two sculptures made by two brothers. The first one by Joseph Geefs was commissioned by a cathedral in Belgium but was removed for being too alluring, beautiful, and tempting to young women.

So the cathedral commissioned his older brother, Guillaume Geefs, to create a sculpture on the same theme: 'the triumph of religion over the Genius of Evil'. The second sculpture looks more satanic and anguished, so they kept it. However, many people these days agree that the second sculpture is actually even more attractive.

Ricardo Bellver

El Ángel Caído (1877)

The fountain displaying this statue happens to stand 666 meters above sea level (which is delightful).
